This week we covered Landing Pages. I was glad to have a week focused on this, as I was aware that this is a project deliverable and wanted to get started. This session was very informative and I took a lot of learning from it.
Prior to today, I would have described a landing page as ‘a website’. Even though this is right, it was very interesting to dive deeper into the purpose and anatomy of a landing page and the vital role that it plays in branding.
One of the most valuable things I took from today's lesson was our discussion of what a landing page should include:
The USP of a brand. I wasn't entirely sure on what this means to I did some research: USP stands for Unique Selling Point, this is what makes your brand stand out and differentiate from others in a busy market. Without a USP, a brand would likely get buried in others with more desirable selling points, so it's vital to lay this out on touchpoints like a landing page. After researching USP, I can understand why it’s so important much more. For example, my brand Open Books’ USP is drawing youth who are *unfamiliar *****with reading into it.
Hierarchy is important in a landing page. As it is a website, users reach content by scrolling, so content should be carefully positioned as placement determines when and how likely content is to meet the user. We did an exercise using a ‘bulls eye’ to determine the hierarchy that we would like to use for our brand. Hierarchy also refers to text; Big text will grab attention, so this should be used alongside the brands USP to draw users in.

Landing pages are a website, so it’s a good idea to buy a domain for it. Even without a landing page, we discussed how buying a domain is good to have as a designer; for example, to host a poetfolio. This is something that I’ll look into over the break, as I plan to begin working on my portfolio shortly.
In official branding, you need to follow the process of intellectual property. with branding its art trademark classifications. This answers questions like is it own able and safe? If someone choose a brand name that already trademarked, it would an infringement on intellectual property law putting them at risk of facing legal action. Although I was already familiar with Intellectual property as I’d studied it before, it was useful to have a refresher as I’m aware that I will need to be aware of it in future projects.

Week 10 was very useful for my current project, in particular, the information we covered about landing pages will definatlet be applied to my work as I plan to begin my landing page very shortly. Of course I was previously aware of the purpose of landing pages, but I didn't realise that they had such a significant impact on how a brand is percieved. I will take hierarchy and USP into consideration when designing my landing page.
