Initially, I found it quite difficult to decide upon a font to use for my project as here were a few that I found interesting. Eventually, I narrowed it down to being between three; Garamond, Bodoni and Mondsterrat. Each of these fonts are very different, which is why I think I struggled to choose betheen them. As I had not done much work with typography, I didn’t know if I would prefer to work with and older or more modern typeface. Therefore, I explored the pros and cons of each below:

Shown to the right is Bodoni.
This is quite similar to Garamond. Similarly, I was drawn to this font as it has an authentic feel. In my opinion, Bodoni. has a slightly sleeker, modern feel that would be more suited for use in todays world.
However, Bodoni is a serif font, while sans-serif fonts are more commonly used and accpted in media today. Therefore, it could be seen as outdated by many.

Shown to the left is Garamond.
What drew me to Garamond is the classic feel that this font has, such as with the sharper edges that give it a more authentic look.
When deciding upon a font to use, I acknowledge that Garamond may feel outdated in some circumstances, such as a modern poster. However, I also feel that this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as a designer may choose to create something with a fonts that have an older look, such as creating as retro poster.

I was also drawn to Montserrat as a more modern font. I feel that of all the fonts I hooked at, this is arguably the most user-friendly as it is clear, blocky and easy to read.
However, I enjoy the more ‘sophisticated’ and less blocky feel of the others to was less inclined to use this.
Although I quite enjoyed the look of Garamond, I do feel that it is too ‘old-fashioned’ and would be hard to apply to designs nowadays, so I decided against using it. This left me to choose between Bodoni and Montserrat. Although they are very different, I actually found it very challenging to decide between the two. Although I preferred the aesthetics of Bodoni, I was aware that Montserrat was more modern, simple and a sans-serif which the majority of modern fonts are.
Ultimately, I decided upon Bodoni. I decided that the classical appearance could use expressively and gives it a sophisticated feel that Montserrat lacks.
