We were encouraged to create user stories to help us with the progress of our project. These are a short persona, written from the perspective of a potential end user from the target audience. Often, these are quite informal and can be a playful, fun way of picturing the target audience. In my previous projects, I have focused on target audiences and user needs, however, I am yet to go in-depth and create actual user stories.

User stories tend to be written in the following format:

As a (…), I want to (…) So that (…)

Target Audience

Before making my personas and stories, I felt it was important to establish a target audience. I want my app to be usable for a wide range of users, so my target audience would therefore be a pretty wide spectrum. I decided on an age range of 18-39 for my target audience, the entire young adult spectrum. I want to focus on those with busy day-to-day lives that could often forget to hydrate as a result, a challenge that I have often face myself.

I decided not to include children or adolescence in my intended audience as they will not likely be concerned with that they are drinking, particularly as it includes reminders about caffeine and other things they may not understand. Furthermore, I want to approach this project sensitively, and I don’t feel that youth should be pushed to worry and focus significantly on their intake any more than nessescary. Of course, hydration is important, but I felt them out to ensure I am approaching this project sensitivity.

Writing my user stories

We were advised to create 2 user stories to support the development of our app. I decided to begin by brainstorming some general ideas of potential users, of which I can later narrow down. Some of the initial ideas that I came up with are:

I found it helpful to write down all my initial ideas at first so that Could choose what ones I could expand on the most. This made creating the user stories much easier, and in the end I an very happy and feel that they accurately reflect members of

My User Stories

As a person who often forgets to drink water, I want reminded to drink water and a low-effort way to keep track of my intake of water and other beverages, so that I can set and reach healthy goals.

As a university student, I want to keep track of what I’m drinking, so that I don’t become dehydrated when I become engrossed in and distracted by my studies.

As a business professional, I want prompted to drink more water while I am working, so that I can better proportion my intake while I am working and avoid over consumption of caffeine during the work day.
